Our hope was that during the study of and contact with the people facing these social dilemmas, the students would start to think of these problems as their own, and their willingness to learn about them would mature. Our intention was to put this idea into practice. In the end, the result was that the students\u0027 level of concern for Okinawan problems did increase, and they did, in fact, develop their ability to think about social phenomena.
