This focuses upon the historical and social background of the revision of the contents of Zokei-Asobi(Playful Art Study) in the 6th National Course of Study(revised in 1989) and the 7th National Course of Study (revised in 1998). The Ministry of Education (MEXT) has introduced the new viewpoint of scholastic ability and planned to reshape teachers' conventional teaching orientation in the last two decades. MEXT has regarded Zokei-Asobi(Playful Art Study) as a symbol of the new viewpoint of scholastic ability. The literature review of the promoters of Zokei-Asobi(Playful Art Study) was implemented to clarify the fundamental issues involved in the promotion and its undermining effect on art education.
