| 内容記述 | This research is intended to review from the viewpoint of Missionization and Post-Missionization fundamental changes of song culture in the entire Pacific Ocean, including East Asia as a result of the encounter of indigenous music and Western music in the 19th century. The Missionization of the song culture means that traditional song was replaced by Christian hymns by the Christian Missionaries. The Post-Missionization of the song culture refers to the performance of a Christina hymn according to the traditional singing style, thus producing a new song that is distinct from Christian hymn and so on. The major factor promoting the mission in the Pacific Ocean was British and American whaling. Whaling and Christianity in the 19-century Pacific Ocean were closely related. The pioneers of Christianity in the Pacific Ocean were the British and American whalers in the Pacific. Whalers entered the Pacific deep-step without maps, and went to open the ports. The propagation of Christianity followed the exploration of the whalers. In this paper, we discuss the relationship between whaling and Christian missionaries in the case of New Zealand. Whaling ship promoted the exchange of people of Polynesia and people exchanged information with each other through it. Christian missionaries obtained a lot of information from the captain of the whaling ship and from local people who was brought aboard the whaling ship. Whaling ship was in need of safety in the port. Christian missions met this need. This was also the case of New Zealand. | |||||||
