| 内容記述 | Genjiro Masu (1904-1995) was a Japanese ethnomusicologist with an interest in Asian music cultures. He was known for a marvelous co-investigation with Takatomo Kurosawa (1895-1987) on the traditional music of wartime colonial Taiwan from January 22 to May 8 in 1943. After the war, from the 1960s to 1970s, Kurosawa had written and published articles, book and records based on the raw data and sound material collected from the investigation. Yet, Kurosawa didn't mention or specify Masu's contribution in these works. Masu was forgotten perhaps because he was neither active nor famous in contemporary ethnomusicology societies. Nevertheless, Masu was a man of talent and diligence, and he bored creative ideas about different Asian music cultures. Limited resources reveal that Masu had been a researcher of India music, he had been to Mainland China and India as an international student, and, before he went to Taiwan, he had conducted a fieldwork in Indonesia in 1941. In this paper, the author tries to make clear his prewar works, and explores why Masu altered his research interest to India music and what studies has been done in India. By probing into his last research subjects, we may be able to know more about his role and contribution in Asian ethnomusicology history. | |||||||
