5歳児の母親38人を対象に質問紙調査を行い、「子どもの絵本好意度」 「読み聞かせ頻度」 「保育年数」 「母親の読書活動」の4点から園児の家庭での絵本体験を分析した。研究2では、3年保育児の母親15人に同様の質問紙調査を3、4、5歳時点で3回行い、絵本体験の変化を検討した。 2つの研究の主な結果は、以下の3点である。 ①縦断比較から、 5歳児では園での絵本体験の影響を受け「絵本好意度」が増加したと母親は捉えているが、 「読み聞かせ頻度」は減少しており、子どもが自分で読む「ひとり読み」が増えていた。 ② 「保育年数」の比較では、 2年保育よりも3年保育の母親の方が、絵本と子どもをつなぐかかわりが多くなっていた。 ③ 「母親の読書行動」は子どもの絵本体験と関連し、読書好きの母親の方がよりわが子が絵本好きだと捉え、子どももよく自分で本を読んでいた。これらの結果をもとに、幼稚園ならではの絵本実践のあり方について「幼小接続」 「家庭との連携」
