内容記述 The purpose of this article is to characterize a schoolteacher's change through participation in a mathematics education program at the graduate level. Specifically, this article assesses the change of teacher from the perspective of teaching practice in mathematics class. In doing so, the teaching practice of a teacher in a lower secondary school was assessed twice before and after the participation in the graduate school program offered by Nara University of Education. Based on the result, his change was characterized bv interviews conducted three times during and after the participation in the program. The result of this article is summarized as follows: (i) Change of the teacher's teaching practice in mathematics class was mainly observed in two aspects. One is that the teacher came to communicate with his students with respect to mathematics. The other is that the teacher came to have more time for the students to work on his or her own. The emergence of this "pedagogical reasoning" was supported by his long-term investigation into his own framework of mathematics classroom practice. The process of investigation was characterized by four phases: (a) Confrontation with his implicit view of mathematics teaching, (b) Seeking for alternative view of mathematics teaching, (c) Concretizing the alternative view by querying ideal of his mathematics teaching and keywords for approaching that, and (d) Construction of his own framework for mathematics teaching. (ii) The graduate program influenced on his change by providing opportunities in observing, practicing, and discussing mathematics classes in a junior high school, and in planning and conducting a research study for the purpose of writing master's thesis. Based on the result, the possibility of using this characterization for the modification of the current graduate program in Nara University of Education is described.
