| 内容記述 | William Wordsworth (1779-1850) was a British poet whose most important poem titld "The Rainbow"was written on March 26th, Friday, in 1802, and altered on May 14th. Friday, in, 1802, and published in 1807. According to his friend Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834), his seniors severely criticized the poem as despicable puerility. The purpose of this paper is to help you become a better reader of English poems. Whv? Simply because poetry conveys the basic rhythm and beat of the language. This best easy short poem of "The Rainbow" can be appreciated in a full way by all of us. The key to this appreciation lies in understanding how the poet manipulates and draws upon our own attitudes and responses in order to create the meanings of the poem. This paper analyzes the rules of prosodv of the poem "My heart / leaps up / when I / be-hold" (iambic tetrametre), "A rain / -bow in / the sky(iambic trimetre),... "Or let / me die! (iambic dimetre),...and "Bound each / to each / by nat / -u-ral pi / -e-ty" (iambic pentanietre). This metre is a regular one. The poem also has a regular correspondence of sounds, especially at the ends of lines (=abccabcb). This is also a regular rhyme The author in this paper examines the symbols and imagery of "rainbow (=bow)," "child, " "father," and "man," on the basis of the Bible contaning the Old and New Testaments. | |||||||
