内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 John Keats (1795-1821) was a British poet considered among the greatest in English. His works, melodic and rich in classical imagery, include the poem entitled "To Lord Byron" already. George Gordon Byron (1788-1824) was a British poet acclaimed as one of the leading figures of the romantic movement. The "Byronic hero"-lonely, rebellious, and brooding-first appeared in Childe Harold (1812-1818). Lord Byron is seven years senior toJohn Keats. John Keats was exposed to death early in life as his father passed away in 1804. His mother, whom he loved dearly, remarried that year to a man, but passed away some years later from her ill health when John Keats was only in his teens. Mrs. Jennings, who was his mather's mother, passed away in December of 1814. These events surely had an influence upon his own writing. The poem entitled "To Lord Byron" is said to be written in December of 1814. At that time, John Keats was not yet twenty years of age. At this point in his life he was involved as an apprentice in the field of medicine and was said to be considered a career as a doctor of some sort. John Keats had been an avid reader since his childhood. This paper analyzes the content of the sonnet entitled "To Lord Byron," and investigates John Keats's views on Lord Byron as a senior poet. In this paper the author examines the symbols and imagery of "swan," and "lute," applied in the poem. In conclusion, the author has to say that Lord Byron is a hopeless-lover-poet whose dirge is whispered by the warbring lute.
