The present study was carried out to compare the learning (comprehension and attitude) skills between Japanese and Chinese children. Subjects were the fourth- and the sixth-graders. A scale on learning skill for Chinese children was provided by traslating the Japanese version by Okamoto (1992). This learning skill scale consisted of 17 items with 5-point rating scale. The main findings were as follows: (1) For Chinese children, the developmental difference between the forth- and the sixth-graders was observed in comprehension skill. Although the developmental difference was also observed in attitude skill, the difference in attitude skill was smaller than that in comprehension skill. The use of learning skills assessed by this scale was positively related to the acaclemic achievement. (2) For Japanese children, the developmental differences were not observed in both skills. |
