内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 The first purpose of the present study was to examine the validity of CSA (Constraints of Spreading Activation) model proposed by the author. The model postulates as follows : (1) The higher a target is activated the more it is retrieved. (2) The activated level of a target decreases by spreading of activation of it for other words in semantic memory. (3) The higher activated level of a target is maintained by constraints of semantic or syntactic contexts on spreading activation. Each noun target constructs a difinite unit with its adjective associates, but it does not do with its noun associate. Namely the adjective associate constraints the activation of each target to spread in semantic memory. Therefore the model predicts that the performance of targets elicit their adjective associates is better than that of those do noun associates. Forty-eight subjects were asked to generate free associates to each noun target followed by an unexpected free recall test. The probability of recalled targets which elicited the adjective associates was higher than that of those which did the noun associates. The result supported the CSA model and was interpreted as showing that higher activated level of a target was maintained by syntactic constraints of the spreading activation caused by adjective associates. The second purpose of the present study was to examine whether the effect of the continuous and separated presentations on memory varies as a function of part of speech or not. The result did not show the interaction of the type of presentations and the part of speech. As there was no main effect of type of presentation, further research using other lists is neccessary to attain the second purpose.
