内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 Two experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of the types of paired sentences (causal sentence and outcome sentences) and the precision in the sentence (precise and imprecise) on incidental memory. These experiments involved the rating of precision between each target sentence and its paired sentence (causal sentence or outcome sentence) as an orienting task in incidental memory paradigm. Subjects were asked to conduct the orienting task followed by free recall and cued recall tests. One word of each target sentence was used as a cue in cued recall. In the first experiment the type of paired sentences was treated as the within-subjects factor. The performance differences between the causal and the outcome sentences were not observed in both free and cued recall tests. Although there was no performance difference between the precise and the imprecise sentences in free recall, the better performance was observed for the precise sentence in the cued recall. In the second experiment the type of paired sentences was treated as the between-subjects factor. There was no performance difference between the causal and the outcome sentences in both free and cued recall tests. The performance difference between the precise and the imprecise sentences was observed in both free and cued recall tests. The findings obtained in both experiments suggested that there was no difference in effectiveness between the causal and the outcome informations and that the precision of the both types of informations was critical in incidental memory.
