| 内容記述 | The present study was carried out to investigate the combined effects of three types of elaborations on incidental free recall. The experiment involved free association as a orienting task in incidental paradigm. Subjects were asked to generate free associates of each target followed by a free recall test. All the targets were divided into four categories in terms of combination of three types of elaborations. The four categories were as follows : the Between-item, Within-item and Autobiographical elaborations (BWA), the Between-item and Within-item elaboration (BW), the Autobiographical and Within-item elaboration (AW) and the Within-item elaborations only (W). The recall performance of targets was highest in a BWA category followed by a BW and a AW categories, and lowest in a W category (BWA>BW=AW>W). No difference of performance between BW and AW categories was interpreted as showing the small effect of within-item elaboration on discrimination process followed the generation process in retrieval. Moreover, the additive effect of between-item elaboration and autobiographical elaboration (BWA>BW) showed that the autobiographical elaboration yielded better discrimination in retrieval than the within-item elaboration. These results support the framework proposed by Toyota (1993) that assumes the differential effects of within-item elaboration and autobiographical elaboration on discrimination in retrieval. | |||||||
