Electrocardiographical examinations were performed in 316 new university students (male; 141, female; 175) and 43 students (male; 36) with finding of left ventricural hypertrophy (LVH) were selected for further evaluation. Relationships among blood pressure, cardiothoratic ratio (CTR), obesity index, history of sports and voltage of criteria of LVH were examined in these 43 subjects. 1. Blood pressure and CTR were within normal limits in all subjects. 2. None of the voltage criteria of LVH proposed by Sokolow & Lyon such as R1, Rv5, Rv6, Sv1+Rv5, Sv1+Rv6 was significantly related to CTR or obesity index. When using these criteria, the above 43 students were judged to be pseudo-positive for LVH. 3. There was no relationship between Sv1+Rv5(6)value and history of sports. 4. CTR tended to become greater as obesity index increased. However the correlation between them did not reach statistical significance. 5. The number of subjects with pseudo-positive finding decreased from 43 to 2, when the LVH criteria was setted for Sv1+Rv5(6)>55mm. These results led us to a conclusion that Sv1+Rv5(6)>55mm is a suitable voltage criteria of LVH. Futher evaluation using echocardiography is necessary to establish reasonable criteria of LVH. |
