| 内容記述 | The purpose of this study was to develop educational materials, to improve instruction methods, and to use these for teaching Japanese students to appreciate classical Chinese. Japanese students begin learning how to read classical Chinese in grade 7, but by grade 9 many students consider it one of their weakest subjects. I concluded that one reason for this might be the order and content of existing textbooks. Taking into consideration the fact that the study of classical Chinese continues into senior high school, I searched for materials that would help junior high school students become accustomed to and interested in kundokubun (classical Chinese texts with symbols and kana suffixes added to assist Japanese readers.) . I found a relatively easy-to-understand passage in the Nihon Shoki, concerning the word himuro (icehouse), which can still be found in a local place name. I made this into a text, invited a scholar on local history as a guest lecturer and conducted a two-hour lesson followed by 30-minutes of post-lesson study. To summarize what they had learned, I asked the students to compose a short article on a subject that had caught their interest. The students learned to read the long kundokubun passage, asked the guest lecturer questions about history, language and other related aspects in which they had become interested, and prepared their articles while referring to dictionaries and other books. The guest lecturer also served as an example of the significance of a lifelong appreciation for classical literature. | |||||||||
