[Background] While the acquisition of health-related information and knowledge is mandated duringthe school education period according to the curriculum, health issues among young individuals have been increasingly observed in inrecent times. This study aimed to investigate the status of health education and examine the nature of its learning. [Method] A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted among university students. Participants were asked about their recollection of health education during their middle and highschool years, including the contents remembered and their expectations regarding the learning content. [Results]Gender differences were not evident in learning recollection; however, variations were observed in the percentageof requests for the 'need for sex education.' Approximately 10% of students responded with 'no recollection,' citing reasons such as 'unnecessary as an elective subject' or 'insufficient emphasis due to self-study.' [Discussion] With the mandatory enforcement of comprehensive life-safety education in 2022 and the imperative need for thorough communication of sex education, educators are likely to face increased responsibilities. Effectively employing active and dialogic learning strategies within health education is deemed essential to encourage students to acknowledge the importance of health education (184 words). |
