| 内容記述 | Shirakawa Gakuen, an institution for children with learning difficulties including mental retardation, was established in 1909 by the Kyoto Association of Education (Kyoto Kyouiku Kai). The educational practice of the institution had been conducted by Ryokichi Wakita, who had been in charge of the institution. Firstly, this study outlines the future of the institution, the children and the educational approaches for these children. Secondly, this study attempts to analyse the case study on the children who were presented as typical cases by Wakita based on his practices. His theory of education for children with learning difficulties established the five types of children with mild/moderate learning difficulties caused by mental retardation, mental illness, chronical illness, sensory impairment, and delinquency. He called these children "Tyukanji" and examined approaches for the four types of the cases in the five types. Wakita's practices and records of each child are valuable from a historical viewpoints of special education and social welfare for children with disability, although there are some limitations in his practices and beliefs. | |||||||
