内容記述 Two Experiments were performed to examine the effects of conservation (Exp. 1) , intelligence (Exp. 2), and family-resemblance structure on young children's categorization modes in a 2-category classification task. The exemlars used in this study were schematic girls varying with two values in each of five dimensions (Fig. 1). Two types of tasks were provided: the one with strong family-resemblance structure and the other with weak family-resemblance structure (Table 2). The subjects were given one of the tasks and assessed the categorization modes (holistic vs. analytic) after reaching each of the three learning criteria (4/4, 8/8, 8/8 + 16). Experiment 1 The subjects were given the number conservation test with five items. On the basis of the test scores the conservers (mean CA = 5 : 10) and the nonconservers (mean CA = 5 : 8 ) were selected and then they were assessed the categorization modes. The results showed that (a) the analytic mode was used more frequently for the weak family-resemblance task than for the strong one, (b) for the weak family-resemblance task the percentages of the subjects who used the analytic mode increased with incereasing criteria of learning while those who used the holistic mode decreased, and (c) the conservational level had little effect on the categorization mode. Experiment 2 The subjects were given the EIS intelligence test. On the basis of the mental ages the subjects with higher MA (mean MA = 7 : 1 ) and the subjects with lower MA (mean MA = 5 : 1 ) were selected and then they were assessed the categorization modes. The resuls showed that (a) the higher MA subjects learned the classification task faster than the lower MA subjects, (b) for the lower MA subjects the analytic mode was used on the weak familyresemblance task more frequently than on the strong one, and (c) the percentages of the lower MA subjects who used the analytic mode increased with increasing criteria of learning for the weak family-resemblance task while those who used the holistic mode decreased.
