| 内容記述 | Social studies, which was a new subject, started in 1947 as the most important subject in the curriculum of primary schools of postwar Japan, which was detremined to be reborn as a democratic nation. At the beginning, there were many problems in teaching the subject, because it required different methods from those which the Japanese teachers were acquainted with. But among the teachers in Nara Prefecture there were many engrossed in developing methods of teaching the new subject under the guidance of Professor Takayasu Shigematsu at Nara Women s Higher Norman School, who was also Principal of the Primary School attached to it. Late in the 1940s, many excellent reports on their classroom instruction were published by them, which brought about an honorable reputation that in the field of teaching scial studies, Nara was one of the most advanced prefectures in Japan. The author made clear characteristics of the history of social studies teaching at the primary school level in Nara Prefecture, focusing on these three aspects. 1. To give a general view of the history of social studies instrustion in Nara Prefecture, he made a brief chronological table. 2. To make clear the features of the curriculum, he traced the changes in the social studies curricula which were published by the Board of Education of Nara Prefecture. 3. To make clear the character and tendency of the Association of Primary School Teachers of Social Studies, he classified the lecturers who were invited to speak at its annual meetings. Finally, the author emphasized that the honorable tradition of social studies teaching in Nara Prefecture should be maintained by the contemporary teachers. | |||||||
