| 内容記述 | In Shinkyo-soen, the residential institution for the mentally handicapped adults, satisfactory results were obtained in a short period on improving the social adjustment of the mentally handicapped. It leads to the suggestion that inadequate social adjustment of the mentally handicapped must be grasped in relation to their social circumstances rather than held only as the results of constitutional defects fixedly. As regards the general tendency in this respect, the present writer gave general overviews in 1973, 1974 and 1975. The purpose of the present paper is : to make a trial to rejudge the abilities of social-life on the mentally handicapped in Shinkyo-soen according to AAMD's standards for judgement and to make clear the causes of the changes of their social abilities. The definition of mental retardation of AAMD (1973) is as follows: Mental Retardation refers to significantly subaverage general intellectual functioning existing concurrently with deficits in adaptive behavior, and manifested during the developmental period. On the basis of the results of rejudgement, most handicapped persons showed the approval changes and 12 cases were developed to not mentally retarded level. In our opinion, these approval changes are derived from the desirable environment both physically and spiritually, and the institutions should be situated as the starting station with the whole disabled persons. | |||||||||
