内容記述 The purpose of the present study is to examine, among elementary school children, whether personality similarity and, superiority and similarity of ability can be the source of interpersonal attraction, how the relationships differ among criteria, and how these factors influence each other as determinants of interpersonal attraction. 217 5-th graders (114 boys and 103 girls) served as subjects. They were assigned to either one of the two experimental conditions-one was to rate attraction toward the stimulus person of personality similarity or dissimilarity on the premise of superior ability, similar ability, and inferior ability (Plan A); the other was to rate attraction toward the stimulus person of superior ability, similar ability, and inferior ability on the premise of personality similarity and personality dissimilarity (Plan B). Main findings were as follows: (1) Personality similarity-attraction relationships were observed in almost all criteria. As to ability, either one or both of similarity-attraction relationship and superiority-attraction relationship was observed in some criteria, but not in other criteria. (2) In Plan A, personality similarity effect was observed in all the criteria except class committee only when ability was similar, and observed in class committee criterion both when ability was similar and when ability was superior. In Plan B, the relationship between ability similarity or superiority on the one hand, and interpersonal attraction on the other, was not significantly influenced by personality similarity or dissimilarity. The obtained results were compared with those reported in earlier studies and some discussion was made in regard to the agreements and discrepancies together with a few suggestions for further study.
