内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 In the process of child development, there are various aspects such as language, movement, emotion and socialization, which are functionally related with each other. We need to look at the children's language in relation to various other functions. In nonhandicapped children, these functions are acquired in parallel with each other at the critical period in the course of development. In handicapped children, however, there is a developmental lag in the acquisition of each function. This problem makes it difficult for the child to overcome the next developmental critical period at every stage. In a previous study, we examined the language development in mentally retarded children in relation to the development of finger activity. In this study, we attempted to examine the relationships between language and other functional development-whole body motion, finger activity and socialization in mentally retarded and autistic children. Kyoto Child Guidance Clinic Infant Development Test, experimental tasks and observation were administered to 3 mentally retarded and 4 autistic children. They ranged at developmental stages of language-cognition function from the reversible "connection of genus 3" to the reversible "1 dimensional operation". Results indicated that although acqusition of language-congnition function as compared to acqusition of other functions was difficult in both groups, there were differences between the groups on functional relations with development. In mentally retarded children, level of language-congnition abilities was same in finger activity abilities. In autistic children, however, the large discrepancies on developmental levels among these functions were shown. The abilities were poorer in the language-congnition and socialization than in the finger activity. But, the discrepancy tended to decrease through progressive developmental stages.
