Many petite mutants were isolated from a strain of S. cerevisiae that had four mitochondrial resistance (chloramphenicol-, erythromycin-, oligomycin- and antimycin A-resistance) markers after treatment of a low dose of ethidium bromide. The petite mutants isolated were examined for their suppressiveness and for retention or loss of the mitochondrial resistance markers. The results clearly indicated that the petites losing all four markers have showed higher suppressiveness than the petites retaining all the markers have done. From the results has been discussed a correlation of the frequencies of retention or loss of the mitochondrial markers to the degrees of suppressiveness in the petites. |
