A new method to determine degree of suppressiveness in yeast has been developed and its availability was discussed. In principle, suppressiveness was measured by inspecting the colonies derived from zygote progeny at 10th generation after zygote formation. The results showed that the inherent suppressivity continued to operate in the zygotes until the somatic segregation of the mitochondrial genomes was completed, and that erythromycin and antimycin A did not effect the degree of suppressiveness during the somatic growth of zygotes. With increasing doses of ethidium bromide, highly suppressive petites and subsequently neutral petites were increased. |
