内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 The present studies were carried out to classify the seasonal variation of endoparasite infection in Rhinolophus ferrumequinum nippon in Onino-iwaya cave.located at Tojo-cho, Hiroshima Prefecture. Several bats were captured alive once a month and were autopsied immediately to discover endoparasites from the bat's gut during the period from January to December (except June), 1974. At the same time, as endoparasite infection to bats is closely related to bat's feeding activity during the active and the inactive periods, seasonal variation in the population density of bats in the cave were investigated. The results obtained were as follows ; (1) Four species belonging to three genera of insectivorous bats, namely, Rhinolophus ferrumequinum nippon, R. cornutus cornutus, Miniopterus shreibersii fuliginosus and Myotis macrodactylus were found scattered on the ceiling of cave. The population density of the bats in the hall of cave was highest during summer period, but it begun to fall towards the end of August and later, and the bats disappeared in the hall during the inactive period, viz. late in autumn and winter (Table 1). On the other hand, only about a hundred R. ferrumequinum nippon and some R. cornutus cornutus lived in the interior of cave during hibernation period (Table 2). (2) The bats, R. ferrumequinum nippon, were infected with many minute larval cestodes of Hymenolepis subrostellata, which were invisible to the naked eye, throughout the year. The extensity of the minute larval cestode infection was high in the bats just before hibernating, viz. late in autumn (Fig. 2). The maximum incidence of the minute larval cestode infection per bat was in the period from February to March and the minimum incidence of it was in the period from July to August. The mature cestode infection was found in only R. ferrumequinum nippon captured during the active period, viz. in the period from July to October (Fig. 2 and Table 3). (3) The bats were infected with the trematode, Acanthatrium ovatum throughout the year and the seasonal variation in infection rate was scarcely observed. The mean value of trematode infection per bat was the highest rate in October (Tables 3 and 4). (4) The bats were infected with the nematode, Strongylacantha pretoriensis throughout the year as in the case of cestode and trematode. The rate of infection was high during the active period and was low during the hibernation period (Tables 3 and 4).
