内容記述 The present investigation was conducted to examine the roles of direct reinforcement and modeling in a Greenspoon-type verbal conditioning task. In Experiment I 36 female undergraduates served as the subjects. After 30 operant trials, half of the subjects were assigned to a direct reinforcement condition. They were given verbal reinforcement "Good" by experimenter following their every critical response. The remaining subjects were assigned to a modeling condition. They were exposed to a taped-model response prior to their every one of their responses. In this model tape the critical responses gradually increased with trials. Under these two conditions 90 acquisition trials were given. After these acquisition 30 extinction trials were given without any verbal reinforcement and modeling. During the acquisition period the critical responses were increased significantly by the modeling but not by the direct reinforcement. During the extinction period the critical responses under the modeling condition decreased significantly but those under the direct reinforcement tended to increase. These results were interpreted to show that direct reinforcement had a function that maintains the acquired responses during the extinction and that modeling had a function that facilitates the acquisition of the critical responses. In Experiment II half of 36 subjects were assigned to a modeling condition. They were given modeling only. The remaining subjects were assigned to a modeling with direct reinforcement condition. They were given direct reinforcement to their critical responses after the exposure of the taped-model. The results showed no significant difference between the two groups. It was concluded from the two experiments that the facilitation effect of modeling was confirmed but the maintenance effect of direct reinforcement was questionable.
