| 内容記述 | It is commonly accepted that conceptual category norms are used for research on verbal memory and verbal learning, especially conceptual clustering, conceptual learning, and paired-associate learning. The norms are constructed based on Ss' responses to several category names such as "fish" and "transportation." Although several norms with adult Ss have been published, there appears no category norm with children. The purpose of the present study was to construct the category norms of 16 verbal categories for young children. The Ss were 180 young children of 3, 4, and 5 years of age, each 30 boys and 30 girls. S was given 16 category names one at a time and was required to tell what S thought to belong these categories. Each category was given at S's pace with no time limit. The category names adopted in the present study were fish, four-footed animal, insect, bird, flower, tree, vegetable, fruit, drink, dish, confectionery, musical instrument, footgear, transportation, stationery, and nation. All responses were tabled for each category name. They are shown in the tables on Pp. 135-146. Table 1 shows the total number of responses toeach category name. The category names with relatively many responses were four-footed animal, fruit, and drink and those relatively few responses were stationery and nation. Table 2 shows the numbers of Ss who could not give any responses. The category names with many Ss with no response were stationery, nation, and musical instrument and those with few Ss were drink, flower, and insect. Table 3 shows the numbers of responses with modifiers such as "a swimming fish" ahd "a small fish". A number of category responses were obtained in the category names of tree, fish, and confectionary but there were few or no such responses in fourfooted animal, drink, and footgear. Category responses appear to be a reflection of young children's concepts. | |||||||||
