内容記述 The present studywas planned on the basis of the experimental results of the figurerecognition of direction by mentally retarded children in the first paper of this series. The aim of this study is to reexamine the result of the former test and to gain further informations about the effects of stimulus figure on recognition by mentally retarded children through the analysis of the developmental curve of exactness. As Fig. 1 shows, 4 different stimulus figures consisting of two geometric forms and two drawings of familiar objects were used in this experiment. Each of these figures was presented at eight directions. A total of 32 different stimulus cards was prepared for each Ss. The Ss were 63 mentally retarded children between the mental age of 3-8 yr. and 66 normal children between the chronological age of 3-8 yr. The means of correct responce per figures were analyzed. The conclusions were: (1) The means of correct responce required for the retarded children were much lower than for the normal children of equivalent mental age at all ages. But, it was found that the retarded children are able to recognize more accurately with increasing mental age. (2) The effect of two different types of figure on recognition was observed with the group of normal children. The correct responce for familiar objects was significantly higher than for geometric forms. On the contrary, it was found that significant familiar objects-geometric forms differences are not observed with retarded children. (3) Results with retarded children on the figure-recognition of direction also showed that the amount correct varied with each direction of the figure. It was maximum in up and down direction.
