| 内容記述 | In spite of the importance of audiovisual ability on television the definition has not been established yet. The purpose of this paper is to compare it with some similar concepts and consider the problems. The problems of audiovisual ability belong under receiver, connecting with content. The researches of audiovisual ability are also related to broadcasting proper, but we limit them to educational television viewing in order to clarify the meaning. The first similar concept is the effect by broadcasting which means sufficient attainment of sender's purpose. But audiovisual ability is receiver's responding ability, not being necessarily bound by its changing quantity. Conditions which restrict effect are applicable to audiovisual ability. Above all, receiver's intelligence, character, attitude, interest and experiences are important conditions. The second concept is what Dale calls listenability and visuabilty. This means not receiver's listening ability, but easiness of contents in terms of listening and viewing. The third is comprehensibiity mentioned by Barrow, which is also related to content. He interpretes it is the degree to which a message is understandable to the receiver. His main interest is in a message (content). The fourth is visual literacy mentioned by Dabes which is connected with receiver. It contains not only understanding but also composing and expressing ability. If this concept is applied to television viewing, it means television understanding and broadcasting. From our point of view we limit their television viewing ability to that of understanding, but it raises many questions. In a broad sense of audiovisual ability it includes not only intellectual but emotional and actional responses. It emphasizes that television image has stronger stimuli on emotion and action than language media. In a narrow sense it is limited to intellectual response.lt is noticed that in the former case, multiple channel media is not necessarily superior to single channel media. They must be examined according to programs and viewer's conditions. And the fact that emotional response is difficult to catch exactly and treat statistically shows important problems. So we would take up intellectual response only. Audiovisual ability can be compared with understanding ability of printed pages. In addition to analyzing and understanding the elements of television image content, we must comprehend their grammar and syntax. The grammar of television image has such methods as changing of scenes, montage and expressing. How and to what degree children can view television programs by the criteria indicates their audiovisual ability. | |||||||
