| 内容記述 | The nodal diaphragm in rice plants is composed of two constituents which are serviceable without difficulty as aerenchyma. The one is the parenchyma in the central part and the other the sclerenchyma on both outsides of the former. The parenchyma occupies a greater part of the diaphragm and is composed of cells projecting many protuberances and assuming a form of star-shaped sugar candy. Each of protuberances is firmly anastomosed with that of adjoining cells, leaving wide intercellular spaces. With the proceeding of development, cells extending from three layers to seven at least, not only one layer as referred to in the past to, on both outsides of the parenchyma, transform into lignified and thickwalled ones, forming the sclerenchyma. Keeping pace with this change, axial crevices are developed in places. Therefore, the nodal diaphragm is regarded as an efficient aerenchyma from a structural point of view. | |||||||
