内容記述 The purpose of the present experiment is to investigate the perception of water level representation. The subjects of this experiment were 149 1st-grade and 150 2nd-grade children who had been, respectively, divided into 3 experimental groups and 2 control groups. 3 experimental groups were as follows: (1) perceptual training group, (2) verbal training group by the horizontality principle, and (3) verbal training group by the water level principle. And one of the 2 control groups had no posttest session. The experiment was consisted of 4 stages which were, in succession, pretest, training, posttest, and transfer test. The materials used in pre- and posttest were straight-sided bottles and one used in transfer test was round-bottomed flask. These meterials, halffilled with red-colored liquid, were covered with opaque cloth and tilted at various angles to the horizontal. And subjects were instructed to guess the "water levels" of the liquid. From the analysis of the data, several findings were obtained, and these were summarized as follows: (1) In posttest, perceptual training group was superior to verbal training groups and to control groups by the multiple range test. (2) From the analysis of stage classification of pre- and posttest performance by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, subjects of the 2nd-graders were likely change to a lower classification. (3) From the analysis of the number of erroneous responses by the chi-square test, the oblique positions were more difficult to guess than the horizontal and vertical positions, and the horizontal positions were more difficult than the vertical positions.
