| 内容記述 | This paper is a theoretical study about the history of education of the mentally retarded. In this paper, an attempt was made to clarify the need of studying the history of education of the mentally retarded. First of all, we have to recognize that the problem of the mentally retarded is one of the social problems at present. Therefore, the study of the problem of the mentally retarded should be made as a social science. The study of the problem of the mentally retarded consists of the fields of medical science, social welfare, psychology, and education. Then, THE STUDY OF EDUCATION OF THE MENTALLY RETARDED is the study of the mentally retarded in the area of education. The problem of the mentally retarded as a social problem varies with time. Then it is indispensable to study it historically, and it holds true in the study of the education of the mentally retarded. The author tries to name the former THE HISTORY OF THE PROBLEM OF THE MENTALLY RETARDED and the latter THE HISTORY OF THE EDUCATION OF THE MENTALLY RETARDED. In addition to the latter, there are historical studies of the medical treatment, institutional care, and so on. The methods of these historical studies must be strictly those of historical sciences. Thus, the study of THE HISTORY OF THE MENTALLY RETARDED makes clear the law of the development of the problem of the mentally retarded, and that of THE HISTORY OF THE EDUCATION OF THE MENTALLY RETARDED clarifies the law of the development of the education of the mentally retarded. Besides, another attempt was made, in this paper, to clarify the difference between THE EDUCATION OF THE MENTALLY RETARDED and THE SPECIAL EDUCATION. | |||||||
