内容記述 There have been some studies concerned, from the standpoint of developmental trends, with the isolates found in the classroom, but no consistent results were obtained heretofore. Our present study represents an attempt to examine the developmental trend observed in relation to the isolates, with relatively large samples of 15 months' acquaintanceship. Sociometric criteria employed in this study were "best friend" and "sports companion", and three choices were allotted to each criterion. Ss were from grade 2 throngh 8 ; 10 classrooms of 2nd-, 4th-, and 8th-graders, with 11 classrooms of 6th-graders. Sociometric test on "best friend" criterion was first administered to those Ss and that on "sports companion" followed it, between the end of June and early in July, 1965. The frequency of isolates (here determined as those who received no choices on the test from both sexes included) was calculated by grades and by sexes. Median tests were conducted to evaluate the developmental trends. An analysis and comparison of the data revealed the following findngs : (1) The frequency of isolates observed in the classrooms significantly decreased, on both criteria, with increasing grades, in case of boys and girls combined, and, of boys. Results with girls suggested the same tendency as mentioned above, but the differences among grades failed to reach statistical significance (Table 3, Table 4, and Fig. 1 ). (2) Isolated boys observed on both criteria tended to be more than isolated girls in all grades, but statistically significant differences between the two sexes were found in grades 2, 4, and 6 on the "best friend" criterion ; and, in grade 4 on the "sports companion" criterion. Also, it was suggested that the sex differences found among upper graders decreased (Table 3 and Table 4). (3) These results were compared with those obtained in earlier studies and some discussion was made in regard to the agreements and discrepancies.
