| 内容記述 | The Shunie, which is commonly known as the "Ceremony for drawing Sacred Water" and is annually observed at the Todaiji Temple, is one of the most time-honoured and peculiar events in Japan; it was started as early as 752A. D., this year's ceremony being the 1,213th. On this occasion, extending over a fortnight, as many as eleven Buddhist priests practise strict religious austerities, sincerely beseeching the Eleven-faced Goddess of Mercy to forgive their sins, and offering earnest prayers to Her for the welfare of every human being. Each day they have six periods of Buddhist service respectively named Nitchu, Nichibotsu, Shoya, Hanya, Goya, and Jincho. What is done during each of these periods is extremely complicated and full of variety. The Shomyo which is read aloud during each period consists of Sanrai-mon, Kuyo-mon, Nyorai-bai, Sange-kodo, Shugan-mon, Juichimen- Kannonkeka, Kannon-hogo, Gobutsu-onmyo, Oi-sange, Sho-sange, Shingyokodo, Eko-mon, etc., which form the greatest part of the entire function, not only in its quantity but also in the time required for chanting. The music adopted in the present study is that of the Shomyo which was recitedd uring the Shoya period observed on March 1, 1964. In this Shomyo there is found no such strict rule in regard to meter as is seen in the Tendai Shomyo, but its construction is quite logically worked out. Especially.it excels not so much in the form of rhythm as in the increase and decrease, repetition, and omission, of rhythm. These factors play an important part in this Shomyo being equal to the long-term service. | |||||||
