| 内容記述 | The biggest weakness in teaching English in Japan lies in the fact that it is not a humanistic, total approach; emphasis is laid mainly on grammar and translation and the use of the powers of memorization. The average students are poorly motivated for learning English as speech. English poetry (including nursery rhymes and songs) should play a definite role in our English language education from elementary through tertiary level, since poetry is powerful speech―memorable and patterned speech, and enriches the students' experience in the English language. Teaching of English poetry should be an integral part of the English curriculum to expose the students to stress, rhythm, and intonation of Speech Flow. In this paper are presented some examples of poems suitable for Japanese Junior High School and Senior High School students, and the way of developing lessons in poetry is suggested. | |||||||||
