Abstract |

内容記述 |
The first purpose of the present study was to develop a Japanese version of Emotional Skills and Competence Questionnare (ESCQ) originally developed by Taksic (2002) to assess the individual difference in emotional intelligence or competence. The second purpose was to examine the relationship between two other scales, Big-five and Self-esteem. Original version of ESCQ has 45 statements, which has the following three scales: a) ability to percieve and understand emotion, b) ability to express and label emotion and c) ability to manage and regulate emotion. The Japanese participants were 615 undergraduates (132 males and 483 females). They were presented with 45 statements of the original version that were translated into Japanese by authors, and were then asked to rate the likelihood that the behavior represented in each statement occurred on 5-point scales. Factor structure of the total 28 statements of Japanese version was almost a fit with the three factor structure of the original versin of ESCQ. Cronbach alpaha were satisfactory for the three scales mentioned above (α=.91~.65). Each factor consisted of nine or more items with loadings exceeding.34 and having minimal overlap with the other factors. Factor I was marked by 12 statements which was mostly corresponded to the first scale of the original version (Ability of Perceive and Understand emotion). Factor II was comprized 8 statements, which corresponds to the second scale of the original version (Ability to Express and Label emotion). Factor III was comprised of 8 statements which corresponded to the third scale of the original version (Ability to Manage and Regulate emotions). The Japanese version of ESCQ subscales positively correlated with Self-Esteem, Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness, but negatively correlated with Neuroticism. The gender differences of correlations with Self-Esteem and Neuroticism were observed, namely the correlations were higher for males than for females. These results indicated the validity of Japanese version of ESCQ and that gender difference should be considered for further researches. |
