内容記述 The dynamic and multifaceted nature of willingness to communicate (WTC) plays a critical part in second or foreign language acquisition, as it varies throughout the course of communicative interactions. Sato (2023) conducted a comprehensive examination of the high and low WTC and the underlying reasons that contribute to high or low WTC during English language learner utterances. Although this seminal investigation successfully elucidated the reasons behind both high and low WTC, it did not delve into the factors influencing the fluctuations between these two extremes. To address this gap, the present study undertook a reanalysis of the data collected by Sato (2023) in order to scrutinize the specific very moments when these fluctuations occurred and to identify the factors behind them. Upon conducting this in-depth investigation, distinctions were observed between the reasons for high WTC recorded in Sato (2023) and the factors that caused high WTC (current study). However, there was no difference in the case of low WTC. The findings from the current resarch provide more insightful implications for enhancing students' WTC in the classroom setting, thereby offering valuable guidance to teachers aiming to foster an environment conducive to optimal language learning and development.
